Aug 1831 Temple site dedicated by Joseph Smith, Jr. Approximately eleven people present
Dee 1831 Jones H. Flournoy sold 63.4 acres to Bishop Edward Partridge, (Agent for the church) for $130-00 (See area outlined by dotted line on map)
Jul 1832 Mob violence flares in Jackson County.
Nov 1833 Saints finally flee across Missouri River into Clay County.
Nov. 1838 Joseph Smith & others imprisoned at liberty, Mo. for 4 ½ months.
Dec.1838 Saints leave Missouri to Illinois.
May 1840 Edward Partridge died in Nauvoo, Illinois.
Jun 1844 Joseph & Hyrum Smith martyred at Carthage, Illinois.
Dec 1847 Brigham Young sustained as president of Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS) claiming to be the true continuation of the church restored through Joseph Smith Jr.
May 1848 Widow Partridge sold temple property to James Pool of Independence for $300.00. Brigham Young allegedly approved the sale.
Mar 1857 Church of Christ formed in Illinois under direction of Granville Hedrick, claiming to be the true continuation of the church restored through Joseph Smith Jr.
Apr 1860 Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (RLDS) claiming to be the true continuation of the church restored through Joseph Smith, was established in Illinois. Joseph Smith III ordained as President.
1864 Civil War battles fought in Independence on temple property.
1867 Hedrick (Church of Christ) led his followers back to Jackson Co.
Nov 1869 Church of Christ (Hedrickites) obtained ownership of 23/4 acres of original temple property.
1888 RLDS Church built stone church at Lexington St. & River Blvd.
1904 LDS Church acquired 24 acres of original temple property along Walnut St. and River Blvd.
1926 RLDS Church began construction of Auditorium on portion of original temple property.
1929 Church of Christ-Temple Lot (Hedrickites) discover temple dedication marker stones marked "1831'.
1971 LDS Church dedicated Visitor Center, located on portion of original temple property.
1992 RLDS Church completed construction of temple on portion of original temple property.
