Qumran Qumran is most famous for the discovery of the dead sea scrolls. Mentioned in Old Testament times, the settlement was renewed at Qumran about the 2nd century BC. and then again in the 1st century AD. It was destroyed during the Roman-Jewish war in 68 AD Caves of the Dead Sea Scrolls
