The Temple Mount

Solomon's temple was built on this site, with elaborate workmanship in gold and brass supplied from Tyre.  The temple was often spoiled of its treasures by foreign enemies as well as by various kings of Judah.  It was burned to the ground and utterly destroyed by Nebuchadnezzar and its valuables carried to Babylon.

The temple of Zerubbabel was built some time around 520BC.  This temple was rebuilt and enlarged by Herod around 18BC, and the temple was in use during the time of Jesus.  The temple was sacked by the Romans in 70AD.

It was from this mount  that Mohammad was taken up to heaven in vision. and now on the temple mount is the Dome of the Rock and Al-Aqsa, Muslim Mosques.
