New York Palmyra, New York was the location of Joseph Smith's first vision. The first edition of the Book of Mormon was also published in Palmyra. The Melchizedek Priesthood was restored shortly after the restoration of the Aaronic Priesthood, somewhere between Colesville, New York and Harmony Pennsylvania. The church was officially organized at the Peter Whitmer farm in Fayette, New York. on 6 April, 1830. Mendon, New York. several prominent leaders of the church lived here during the time of the restoration.

Joseph Smith and Emma Hale were married by Squire Tarble in a house which was located on the current Afton fair grounds. The marker there identifies the couple as Joseph and Emily
