The Restoration in Images |
|
The events of the restoration of the Gospel of Jesus Christ and the organization of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints occurred over a period of several decades: The prophet Joseph Smith was born in Sharon, Vermont in 1805. In 1820, God the Father and his Son, Jesus Christ, appeared to Joseph Smith in a grove near his Palmyra, New York home. On May 15th, 1829, On the banks of the Susquehanna river, the Aaronic Priesthood was restored to Joseph Smith and Oliver Cowdery. The Melchizedek priesthood was restored soon there after somewhere between Colesville New York and Harmony, Pennsylvania. The Church was organized on April 6th, 1830 at the Peter Whitmer farm in Fayette, New York. Important doctrine was received as revelation throughout this period During this initial period of restoration, Persecution forced the migration of the Saints through Ohio, Missouri, Illinois and finally to the Rocky Mountains. Temples were built, further revelations were received and the restoration and expansion of the apostolic church continued. This web site does not attempt to build or explain the marvelous events and doctrines of this restoration, or give a detailed history of its unfolding. Here, you will find images of the historic locations of this great occurrence. Photographs were taken during the last years of the 20th Century, the millennial year 2000 and in June, 2002 at the time of the Nauvoo temple open house. Images were taken on color slide and print film, as well as black and white and infrared black and white negative film. We hope that these images bring to you the same spirit of reverence and dedication that we felt as we acquired them. We are interested in any corrections to this web site.
