Tunbridge Learning Center. This site was reported in the Ensign to be the place where Asel Smith preached. The correct site is most likely further South on the West side of 110, near two trailer homes.  G. Lester Corwin II is standing on the site in the photograph on the right.

Birthplace of the Apostle Albert Carrington in Royalton, Vt. 8 January, 1813

The Smith Family moved from Royalton, Vermont to Lebanon, New Hampshire in 1811.  It was here that Joseph Smith Sr. received a very singular vision, similar to the vision of the tree of life as recorded in the Book of Mormon.  See the History of Joseph Smith by his mother, Lucy Mack Smith. pp 48

It was also here that Joseph Smith Jr. suffered through surgery on his leg by one Dr. Stone.

From Lebanon, the family moved to a home on this site in Norwich, Vermont.  After suffering three crop failures in a row due to the world wide cooling trend or 'mini ice age' which also caused the potato famine in Ireland, the Smith family left their farm for Palmyra, New York.  History of Joseph Smith by his mother, Lucy Mack Smith. pp 60

It was from a Willard Pierce's  Tavern  on this site in Royalton that Lucy Mack Smith bade her aging mother farewell, never to see her again (The building is not the original tavern).

Many thanks to G. Lester Corwin II, a local attorney and avid amateur historian who spent a delightful day with the author, visiting many of these lesser known historical sites in the Sharon and Tunbridge area.
